M.Sc. Respiratory Therapy

A Master of Science in Respiratory Therapy is a post-graduate program that trains respiratory therapists in advanced clinical practice and research skills to prevent, diagnose, treat, and manage respiratory disorders. The program requires a bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy, and typically takes two years to complete. They may work in hospitals, clinics, respiratory therapy departments, long-term care facilities, and research institutions.

The M.Sc. Respiratory Therapy program offers advanced training in respiratory therapy, including advanced respiratory care, clinical training, research skills, and management and leadership skills. Graduates can pursue careers in hospitals, clinics, research institutions, and leadership positions in respiratory therapy. They may also continue their education by pursuing a Ph.D. in Respiratory Therapy or related fields.

Eligibility

The students who have passed with minimum of 50 % in B.Sc. RCT/RT or B.Sc. Critical Care Therapy from institutions where mode of study is a full-time program with internship in universities considered equivalent by Yenepoya (Deemed to be) University are eligible for M.Sc. Respiratory Therapy program. Candidates completing B.Sc. RCT/RT or B.Sc. Critical Care Therapy through correspondence course shall not be eligible. In case of SC/ST/OBC candidates the minimum marks shall be 45%.

Duration

2 Years

The duration of the programme shall extend over 4 semesters, each semester comprising minimum of 15 weeks with the minimum of 90 actual working days of instruction in each semester. The successful completion of the Post graduate program, will lead to Master’s degree in Respiratory Therapy

Program (PO & PSO)

  • PO1: Diagnosing lung and breathing disorders and recommending treatment approaches.
  • PO2:Work as a part of a team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and other therapists in Intensive Care Units and Rehabilitation centre.
  • PO3: Interviewing patients and doing chest physical exams to determine what kind of therapy is best for their condition.
  • PO4:Consulting with physicians to recommend a change in therapy, based on an evaluation of the patient
  • PO 5: Educating patients and families about lung disease so they can maximize their recovery.
  • PO 6: Guide and support medical device manufacturers.
  • PO 7:work as educators in asthma clinics, ancillary clinical staff in paediatric clinics, and sleep-disorder diagnosticians in sleep-clinics.
  • PO 8:To carry out research as evidence and enhancing and changing practice.
  • PO 9:To develop professional quality and high level of competence in the promotion of excellence and current best practice in the delivery and appraisal and for advancing practices.
  • PO 10: Analysing and sampling arterial blood gases, managing ventilators and artificial airway devices for patients who can’t breathe normally on their own.
